Hey everyone,

I have a pair of angelfish in a 29 gallon tank, with one piece of slate, two fake plants, and a sponge/airstone ( it is a sponge with a tube coming out that gives off air).

My angels immediately started to clean and look at other places to clean. They have been in the tank for 1 week. My PH is 6.8, my Ammonia and Nitrite are zero.
My question is, when are me angels going to breed?

My female is cleaning the intake tube, slate, side glass, but mostly, the soft plastic covering of the sponge's airline. The female has already done some "test runs" on the plastic covering, where she would go up the plastic like she was going to breed, but she didn't lay eggs. Even though she is doing this to the plastic covering, she is still looking and cleaning other spots.

How long do you think it will be until they breed? Is it normal to clean 5 spots at one time?

Sorry for all the reading,

GrimZ

Oh yeah, sounds like she is getting close indeed. The male may start cleaning things too, or not. Watch for her breeding tube to drop and you know its pretty imminent - though they can show tube for a few days before spawning. You might wish to add a length of beige PVC water pipe, lean it almost vertically in a corner of the tank. I found angels really like the PVC and the pipe won't crack the tank if it gets knocked over.

Unfortunatly, no there isnt you must wait for the tube and then take them out of the water and check if it is long and curved is a female if its short its a male

Thanks guys, yes I did notice the male also cleaning the covering last night, and the female and male both had their tubes out. The female did do more "test runs" but that was all. I'll let you know if they breed. Thanks again for the help,

The female's genital papilla is blunt and rounded. In comparison, the male's is thin and pointed. When extended both are visible without removing the fish from the water.

I agree, no need to take the fish out of the water.
Thats why we have clear glass tanks for!

One day before they lay eggs there is a distinction between the male and females papilla. ( female is thicker, males is thin)
The day they lay the eggs there the difference is quite visible.

Well, I agree, the male's papilla is more visible that the female's. The eggs will be a translucent white colour and both times my angels bred, they laid eggs late in the evening or in the night when the room was dark.

I had one spawning just last night.

Good Luck!
