Hi there,

I'm starting a 75G tank with 4 clown loaches (2.5 inches). Is Angelfish compatible with them? I plan to get 4 young adults.

I'd also like to get some shoaling fish - either some large tetras or rainbows. Any suggestions. Thanks. - RM -

Yes, Angelfish are compatable with clown loaches and should do nicely in a 55 (the loaches will eventually need bigger housing as they get too large for a 55). How do you plan to cycle the tank? Neither of your choices are suitable for the initial cycling period as it's too toxic and will certainly spell doom for them.

For your shoaling fish try some praecox rainbowfish or coloumbian red fin tetras. Even a few congo tetras would fit the bill

Yup, angels would do pretty well. I have an angel with my clowns, but keep in mind that clowns can harrass an angel as they get bigger, not too much, but my angel had nice looking fins the ends of which are shredded now courtesy my fast growing large school of clowns.

Hi,
My CLs are now 2.5 inches. Hopefully I still have sometime to work with this problem. I am planning to move them into a bigger tank, perhaps in one year or so.

By the way, what's the ideal number of CLs in a 75G tank? After having them for 10 days, they are still a bit skittish.

Any schooling fish will work with angels and clowns...I'd just avoid Neon tetras or anything of the same size. I keep Rummynose tetras, Flame (von rios) tetras, and Head and Tailights successfully with Angels. Also, stay away from any fish that has the tendency to nip, like Serpaes, Black Widow/Skirt tetras, or Buenos aires tetras.
