My friend has a small turtle from China Town in his 120g, He says that depending on the type they can get too big and injure the otherfish... Study diffrent types first, and for a outdoor pond can they escape. Limit the amount of places for them to stand upon.

Ive been seriously into herpetology, and fishkeeping for decades, and trust me turtles and fish are a terrible combination, firstly because turtles are basically filthy creatures who will ruin the water quality of anything short of a completely massive lake, and then theres the predation issues. Almost all freshwater turtles will take bites out of fish much bigger than themselves on occassion. Have one , or the other, but not both. Seriously.

I have kept turtles in the past and have to agree with the above that they are one of the dirtiest animals that you can keep. I had one that I kept in a 55 gallon tank for quite sometime and it was difficult to keep up with the water changes to keep things clean.

Then there the other little issues like there being almost no pond plants that one or the other wont devastate, the fact that the vitamin balance in the diet needs to be completely different, with the turtles requiring a calcium intake that would calcify the internal organs of the koi, and if the turtles eat koi food theyll probably get metabolic bone disease eventually. Then theres the fungus issues, turtles covering or moving pond pump vents, needing basking areas above water ....the fact that turtles like warmer water than koi.... it just goes on and on!

I could go on about it for several pages, but trust me, its an idea on a par with keeping mice and piranhas together.

I agree, keep them seperate. I've known people to keep small african sidenecks with fish in a tank while young, but they do need seperate and distinct requirments. I'd say keep turtles in a seperate pond, but we all know where they'd end up
