So, one of my Apple snails has layed a cluster of eggs (pinkish in color) atop my 50g tank. She layed them on the wood roof, out of the water. My questions are these.

Ive read they need a certain humidity to survive (so they wont dry up and the embryos can exit the egg) but cannot be in the water or they will drown.

So, since I noticd them about 3 days ago, Ive been spraying them with a little of the tank water bout twice a day. Should I do this? Should the humidity from the air be enough or what?

Also, do you think the light bulbs could affect their growth or dry them up completely?

Any help is appreciated

They should be fine, with our without the extra spray. I never put any extra water on any or mine. They mostly hatched from the inside area, and the outer layer of eggs pretty much dried up. I think the eggs are laid in this pattern for the outside layer of eggs to protect the inside layer with moisture. But let us know how well your hatch rate is.

I have had many clutches where about 90% of the egg clump hatched, and as low as about 25% hatch rate.

If you want the maximum amount of eggs to hatch most people will scrape them off the tank and then set them on a sponge in a little container with some water. Put the container on the lights for heat. That also keeps other females or even the same one from knocking them down while trying to lay other clutches. A frequent occurance if you have many females in one tank. Otherwise misting so long as they aren't constantly dripping(babies can drown) will often increase the number that hatch. Being near the lights isn't a problem and will usually just make them hatch faster. For mine I set up some plastic mesh over a gap in the back of the tank, ran an airstone under it, and then set the eggs on top so the bubbles from the airstone caused the eggs to be constantly misted. If you aren't concerned about getting the maximum number of babies then just leave them alone. The ones in the center will definitely hatch and you'll probably still end up with at least 50 babies depending on the size of the clutch. The outside eggs will just dry up and usually eventually fall off and get eaten by the snails.

I think that the tank humidity is enough but if you spray them a bit, you're not doing any harm. As the others said, the out side ones will be like a protection for the inner ones. They will take about 20-25 days to hatch & the little ones usually go straight in the water.
