spiny eels are cool- not a whole lot to them:

they are e to burrowing into substrate, and they can escape from the smallest openings. cover the tank!!

gets to be about 10" (online profiles say 8" to 12". uprooting plants and decor could be a problem. smaller fish could become snacks.

tolerant of normal aquarium temps. nothing special as far as water parameters go.

eats bloodworms, tubifex worms, and the like. i read your thread about the sinking wafers. even if it does eat them, i would supplement/vary its diet.

given the right hiding places and substrate, they do not seem to be very active. however, they are really cool looking and pretty easy to care for.

you may get more responses to this if the question was posted in the "bottom feeders frenzy" forum. some of the die hard loach/eel keepers could probably help you out a bit more.

looks like you already did post it elsewhere-

it really depends on what type of eel u r keeping
some require much more care then others some so called eels like the spiny eels arent really eels but if thats what u have there easy to keep basically as already mentiond i think the most common wood b the peacock whihc stays small others liek the tiretrack eel get a lil larger but they can all b trained to b hand fed
the easiest way is to feed the tank in the same spot then try holding the food there with ur hand still soon theyll learn ur hand is for food my eels swim thro my fingers when ever i have my hand in the tank
