Hi
I have a 46 gallon tank with 3 fish in it...it has been cycling with fish for about a week now. I am not knowledgeable about water chemistry or the cycling process even after reading the articles here ( it will always go over my head ) I did test the waters with the 5 in 1 test kit a few days ago and all those tests came out great...I didnt know that I was supposed to test for amonia levels (dumb I know)...I cant get to a store for a test kit until Sunday.
My question is regarding the haze in my tank since yesterday...from what I read this is normal while cycling and relates to amonia spiking? I am just wondering how long the haze will last? a few more days? I am not interested in clearing the water with chemicals or water changes as I have read that can delay the cycling. So about how long might it last?
TIA
SHARKY

It can take a long wile, even over a month in some cases. What kind of fish are in there? Most species do not do very well when a tank is cycling.

The chemicals they sell to help clear the tank, IME are garbage. They just do not work, and they tend to clog your filter. Good for you on wanting to not use them.

You might want to use NICycle to help speed things up tho. It is one of the few (2) bacteria starters that actually work. Your LFS should have some and I know for a fact that petsmart has it.

Also, with a tank that large and only having 3 fish in there, it will take a lil wile for they cycle to finish. Just be patient.

edit: Welcome to the site!

Thanks for the response Shannen
The fish I have: 1 dwarf gourami, 1 gold gourami, and 1 red tail black shark...I didnt think adding more fish until the tank is fully cycled was a good thing? Like too much amonia?
Can I add a few more fish in the middle of the cycle? And what exactly will that do?
Thanks for helping me out

Thanks Reset - my tank is cycling already though - I am not concerned with it going faster - I simply want to know how long the haze will last in the water.
