Will they bother it even though it will probably be in a ghost house and at the bottom? Other inhabitants include: 7 zebra danios 5 congo tetras 1 BN plec 10 cardinal tetras 3 female platies |

However, tiger barbs are quite nippy, and I'd bet that they would nip the other fish in your tank. Tiger barbs seem to do best with larger fish, but you have tetras, platies, and danios. I'm afraid that adding tiger barbs would lead to big problems. Have you considered another kind of barb? Gold barbs reach approximately the same size, a little larger, and are totally peaceful. Gold barbs would be a better option, in my opinion. Last edited by sirbooks at 11-Nov-2004 19:53 |

Those are the orange ones with the lighter stripes right? Thanks a lot man, you always have good advice for me. EDIT: Oh nvm they are not that kind. I'll be looking for them. Gold barbs are orange, with black markings. They are usually very easy to find in stores. They are very peaceful fish, and are great in community tanks. Here is a photo: ![]() You live near Richmond? I live in Suffolk, so I'm not too far away. Funny co-incidence. [/font]Last edited by sirbooks at 11-Nov-2004 19:58 |

I'm guessing I'll need 6+ though. Maybe I'll get rid of my plain looking danios and get some of them instead. Since they are peaceful, I think I'm going to add some gouramis, and rams. About 2 or 3 of those each. |

I've had the pleasure of keeping a BGK for over 18 months now and my guy is close to a foot long and I've always kept him with all sorts of fish including tetras, cherry barbs, blue rams, cories, gold and tiger barbs and apart from a couple of mysterious disappearances of the tetras, the BGK has never touched any of my other fish. I also have 2 other BGK's in another tank with smaller tank mates and there's been no problem there either. I've seen a BGK around 17 inches (about 7yrs old) in an LFS and it's kept with small fish with no problems there as well. Maybe if they're not fed enough they may get hungry and feel the need to go hunting but otherwise I've found them to be the perfect tank mate for any fish that wont fight for territory and not too aggressive |

Just dropped on in there an hour ago (when lights turned off). If he doesn't eat those then I'll get some frozen/jelly bloodworms or live blackworms. What do you feed yours? Just keep trying different foods fishnewbie and you'll soon see what your BGK likes the best ![]() You'll also find that your BGK will eat during the daylight hours and they will also swim around looking for extra bits of food through the day once they feel comfortable in their surroundings. They're quick learners and very quick to feed from your hand if that's what you want. Good luck with your little beauty fishnewbie ![]() |
