BeastKeeper![]() Big Fish Posts: 444 Kudos: 389 Votes: 47 Registered: 27-Apr-2004 ![]() | i have a empty tall 29usg tank that use to have small communtiy fish. i moved them to a 55usg so they tank has been cleaned and is ready for fish. since the tank is tall there is less suface area. so what are some canidates that would be good for the odd space? |

In my planted 29g I've got cories, ottos, rainbows, female bettas, and other small fish ![]() |

Also, any kind of small schooling fish would be fine, and/or dwarf cichlids, small gouramis, etc. There are plenty of fish that you can keep. |

I have a 29 gallon and have 7-glowlight tetras 4-pepper cories 1-Crimson Dwarf Gourami 2-Cockatoo cichlids They get along great and cover most of the tank. The Cockatoos are great. |

But w/ them being so big you would have less room to but some other fish. I would say a school of tetras, cories, and a ram or 2. |

This is exactly what I have done with mine. They are very commical to watch, as they steal the shells and rocks back and forth from each others holes. As after your sand is added, you will still have open room of the equivilent of a 20 gal. So, you could also add some other SW fish to the tank, like a pair of clowns, a pair of Bengii cardinals, a few chromis, a wrasse or two, some of the SW shrimps and crabs, ect ect ect. I have a pair of clowns and a pair of banded coral shrimp in with the jawfish. It is an awsome tank. Angelfish????? In other threads, some of you have posted that a 20 gal tank is too small for angels. The 29 gal tall, or more well known as a 30 tall, is the same foot print as a normal 20 gal. Angels don't swim up and down, but back and forth. So the added depth does not give them any more real room to move. oh well. Anyhow, I think a pair of angels will do nicely in that tank, if that is what you want. BTW, I am one of those that has said angels will do good in a 20 gal too. There is always a bigger fish... |

I think the idea that angels need a tall tank is because they are so tall and have all those extendy bits that might need more room... I recently aquired 2 very small angels for my 29 gallon, and they are so interesting to watch. Just the way that they move and how smoothly they glide through the water, unlike the other fish that just seem to dart around, is entertainment enough to me They seem to have some interesting personality, too, the way they respond to food and to eachother and the other fish. |

The rest of the stocking should come in the form of small fish, like pancake stated. Hexes, aside from being visually appealing, are, IMO, poor tanks, as they really limit the fish you can keep in their. I don't know how wide 29 hexes are, but I'm not quite sure if a full grown angel is suitable for such conditions. Although it's deep, I'd wager a full grown angel could probably only move 5-6 inches each direction before smacking into a wall. |

They are not just a little hole, they actually make a little cave down in the sand. If you do decide to go with this, there is a little more to it. When putting the sand in, put some kind of divider in the middle of the sand so they will not burrow into each others own home. And, any LR needs a ba There is always a bigger fish... |
