I was wondering what peoples experiences where on schooling fish. I want a nice school that stay in a tight a ball as possible, obviously they won't stay together all the time, but I wondered if you new from experience, what's the best schooling fish with the strongest shoaling instint?
Thanks.

Rummynose tetras school pretty good. They are also look nice too. I have flame tetras, head and tailights, and rummynose tetras. I only have 4 of the rummies, but they are always together, swimming together. All of my tetras stick together, but the rummies school the best.

I am setting up a new 55g and I hope to get more rummies. They are hard to find though!

Just FYI girliegirl, Fat Fish Inc in Fairhope (between Mobile and Pensacola) almost always has rummynose tetras. A bit of a drive from B'ham but if you can't find them anywhere else...

it depends on the tanksize, and what you have, as a problem with stocking schools of fish, is that they will overcrowed a small tank.

so that info would be great in sugestion a fish.

Chris is right about tank size. My personal favorite is Billiant Rasboras.

I've had the best luck with neons and harlequins are tight schoolers.

Thanks Aqua Newbie. That is a good ways from here. I would be afraid of them not surviving the ride home. There are only a couple places around here that stocks rummies...but they don't always have them. I got a LFS to order some for me once, but they didn't last a week after I brought them home. I haven't tried that again. One place told me they only order them in the spring/summer...because they seem to last longer and don't lose as many during that time...so I may try there sometime.

(Sorry to steal the thread by the way)

*helloeveryone: My Harlies seem to school good. There are only 6 of them though...I'll see how well they do when I set up my new tank and have about 10-12 of them.

I have to agree with GirlieGirl on the Rummynose. I had 8 and they looked really good schooling together, sadly I only have 4 left. They are really active and swim all over the aquarium.

Cheers - Crusha
