Get a ceiling fan!!!
If not a ceiling fan, get an occilating fan and keep it running...
Crack you window some to let in fresh air...
The dark curtains do help keep it cooler in the room, if parents will allow it, or whoever (don't know how old you are sorry) put aluminum foil in the window, this will deflect the heat and light (same idea as the window shades for vehicles), if you do this don't crack the window...
Get the child gate, it should help keep "the beast" out of your room...
Make sure your bedroom A/C vent is open...
Keep the lights off, and open the hood of the tank, unless they tend to jump, then get some of that plastic canvass and make a temporary type hood...
Best of luck!!!

I would hate to say use a chiller, as they are used in saltwater often and therefore cost a fair amount

You may also want to keep the tank as low as possible, its cooler there. The fan and dog gate are a good idea. Get a cheap wood dog gate and spay it with bitter apple to keep her from making it a new chew toy

That and all the other suggestions should be able to save you a few and bring you down to 80ish. My fish like that temp and happy/active

my dog is medium, she is around 60 pounds, maby a little more.

Dont know about the bottles either.

I am thinking that if i stopped folding, the temp would be half of what it is, and not fry my room.

idea to keep the tank slightly cooler if needs be

dont know if this will work but just thought of it

coulnd tu each night freeze a few bottles of water (coke bottles or watever) and just dunk them in the tank each day

not sure if it would even work much/at all.

during this summer my fish survived temps of 34/35/36 as the sun blasted on my tank ALL day. i just did a few small water changes every couple of days and made sure i had lots of bubbles gonig in the water.

how bigs your dog? (please say its small!)

why not block the door with one of those child barricades families put up to block babies from goin down stairs? do u know what i'm talking about? atleast that way you can just leave the door open, or just block the door with a peice of plywood or something. the plywood can just rest against the doorframe and put some bricks behind it or somthing. its something maybe you could do atleast for now for a quick fix while you look for something better... IF you have a small dog!

That would be good if it can stay like that in my room.

I have a Flat screen monitor, so it stays very cool, and I have my comp go to standby and the HDD to shut off after 15 minutes of not being used.

Mainly, it is just sitting here at idol with the fan blowing. I do run a program called F@H, that uses up 100% of my CPU cycles, and it runs my processor to about 64 degrees C (when i turn it off, it goes down in the 30's)

I think, depending on your fish, that 82 degrees will be just fine! I keep all my tropicals at 80, and they are all happy and fine. I wouldnt worry much about the 4 degrees. And if you are, just crack a window!

the heat is coming from your monitor mainly, setup the power options in the control panel so that it cuts off an hour from the time that the pc has stopped being used, then get a cheap clipon rotating fan like i got at kmart for $12, also try and leave lights off in room when in there. just the light bulb in your lamp will create heat.

to sum it all up:

1)power saver on monitor set to 1 hour
2)cheap clip-on rotating fan from walmart or sumwhere for about $12
3)leave lights off in room while in there
4)crack window just a bit to let air circulate from clip on fan? if no window sledge hammer a hole to the outside. ;P

open the hood of the tank and have a fan blowing over the surface. this will cause more evaporation but should lower the tank a few degrees.

i have the same problem, the rest of the house is cool but since my room used to be the attic before we refinished it, it gets very hot, infact it is hotter at night then during the day due to the heat build up in the roof.

What about just getting an osolating (sp?) fan? I am not sure how that would effect the fish, but that's how I would keep the room cool.

Or a ceiling fan.

Just an idea.

Here's the story:

We recently had a flood in our basement, so we had to build a new fishtank stand. Right now the 55 gallon is upstairs, but the 20 gallon is still down where the flood was. Were going to build a stand for it and move it up into my room... but theres a problem, i moved the computer into my room also, and it heats up my room soooo much (it is probably 82 degrees in here while my house is 76) The reason it heats up the room is because i shut the door... I know someone will say well leave the door open, but my dog will come in my room and tear everything up (yea, she's like that) so the door needs to be shut during the day.

It is almost winter, so this will be less of a problem (but there is no AC because it is too cold out for it, but no heat because it is too warm for it (dont ya just love fall?) anyways, i need ways to keep the tank at a good temp (78) but i know my room is going to fry the fish. I have no way of getting a chiller, and my room door is shut for 8 hours when i am at school.

Is there any suggestions on how to keep the tank at a good temp? I have dark blue blinds/curtains, so I can make the tank dark during the day (or acually not let any light in) but would this be better, or worse since black absorbs heat?

Thanks for suggestiona, and if needed, I can post a DIY fishtank stand for a 20 long/29/40 gallon fishtank

82 degrees will be fine, just as Sneaky_Pete said. During the summer, my tank heats up to about 85 (sometimes higher) for weeks at a time, and I haven't lost a fish.

I'd only worry about it if you were keeping obligatory coolwater fish, like hillstream loaches or S. barbatus.

how hot is 82 in degrees c? My rooms in the loft so it gets very hot up there, esp in the summer, i reduced the time the lights were on, kept the window open and had a fan on all day. my tank got up to about 33 degrees c everyone survived, i would do smaller changes on really hot days, with cooler water adding it very slowly not to shock them.

but yea, id just turn off ur computer, when its not needed

don't think 82 is a big problem but just to be safe run light less or change light cycle to cooler times of day and maybe leave a little room in tank while light is on to let heat vent from lamps

82 degrees F is about 28 degrees C...

33 C = 91.5 F

Your tank stays at about 33 C? That is rather warm I would think, but that is just me...and here I've been panicking when my tank gets to about 85 F (29 C)...:%)

Air temp is not equal to water temp usually... Have u ever jumped in a pool when it was 70 degrees in the air? Its about 55-60 in the pool. if ur comp gets to 60 degrees C then I hope it doesn't melt the motherboard... thats like 122 degrees fahrenheit or around in there. I suggest if u r worried that u just buy a fan.
