I have two Sengal Bichirs. They are awesome! They get along with most fish although they are predators and will eat what fits in their mouths. I love watching them hunt and feed on other small fish as a treat. I don't think they can see very well but have great abilty to smell. Mine eat pretty much anything but flakes. They LOVE shrimp pellets and anything meaty such as beefheart. They are also very laid back and not at all skidish. Mine always investigate my hand up-close and personal when cleaning the tank.

They can also escape a tank quite easily so cover up! They are also quite active during the day and even more active at night so they are a fun fish to watch.

Oh yeah, I read somewhere that males will not tolerate another male in the same tank. I believe that because when they were in the same tank they always fought. They have now been seperated.

Overall, AWESOME fish!

They get rather large yes? 12 inches? Whats the smallest type tank one could be in?

I've seen "dragon bichirs", I believe these are the senegal bichir.

This is from an auction by Ffn, is this a Senegal?

Not sure if he is a TRUE Sengal Bichir but sure looks like one. Never heard of a Dragon before but I'm sure there are different types of Bichirs.

As for tank size, one of mine is in a 33gal and the other is in my 55 gal. I may get some dirty looks for this but they are both VERY happy! If they do get much bigger then I would have to consider moving them into bigger tanks although they haven't really grown much in the past 4 months. They are both about 6inches long and quite slender which is suprising considering their appetite.

Do you keep your bichir with any other types of fish in the 33 gallon?

That link you posted looks to be a Congo Bichir. It is very differant than a senegal bichir. The Congo bichir can obtain a length of 3 feet. Do you have the dimensions of your tank? A wider-footprint is MUCH more appretiated by bichirs than tall tanks. Bichirs have a primitive lung that allows them to breath air, they will often swim to the surface to take gulps of air. Senegalus bichirs are among the smaller species, obtaining a max length of about 12". There are MANY species of bichirs, some obtaining 2 feet but the largest is the congo bichir reaching about 3 feet. Bichirs will accept a wide variety of foods. Frozen foods such as beefheart will greatly satisfy them. As said before, they are great at escaping. I have lost 2 12" bichirs due to them escaping. They can survive out of water for rather long periods of time due to that primitive lung of theirs (as long as they remain moist).

I almost forgot, you can pretty much find any information you want on them in this thread [link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/40365.html]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/40365.html" style="COLOR: #000040[/link]
