If not what are some other kinds of fish that are not livebearer's which would be comfortable in the setup? |

I would not buy a m/f pair again. Just one and you'll have no problems. |

I have 7 twinbar platys in my 20 gallon with a pair of Thorichthys sp. 'mixteco blue' (a close relative of the firemouth cichlid) and the addition of the platys really livened up the cichlids. they feel much more comfortable in the tank now and are much more active than before. Now that I've added a second ram he's become much more colorful with intense black spots and blue highlights. For this reason, I would recommend more than one ram-- they seem to get depressed or lonely without their own species. |

That's something you might want to consider if you'd thought about keeping any fry. Otherwise, again I'd say no problems. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Then you could compare the fish and see which you truly like better over time! I have a bolivian ram, she is gorgeous. My sister had a blue ram and a gold ram, and I dont them as much as the bolivian ram. More pretty, but not as much personality. Just my opinion though, some people find this the other way around, and some people find they are equal in personality quality. Good luck with your tank, and have fun choosing your rams!
