Hi

I have 4 marbled hatchets in my community and they are doing brilliant, feeding on flake after initial problems getting them to feed.

Has anyone ever bred them? I'd love to have a go, how do i tell males from females?

Thanks

Paul

It has happened occasionally by accident. Sexing is quite difficult, only egg-heavy females can be spotted from above, but a skinny female will look the same as a male.

Usual reports go this way: school of hatchets in a species tank, ignored the tank (went on vacation, got sick, got lazy, etc.) and water level dropped. did massive water change and brought water level back up, started feeding high protein frozen or live foods that stay on or near the surface (mosquito larvae, wingless fruitflies, "aired out" Daphnia). Had mass of live plants. Temp DOWN a couple of degrees. Activity sometimes seen, sometimes not.

It's a crap shoot (that's a gambling reference, not a dirty word). Some folks roll sevens, some roll snake eyes.
