The biggest concern with barbs is their nippiness with long and/ or flowy fins. Since platies have neither, they can live with barbs in peace. |

Certain barbs, such as tiger barbs, can be very nippy, so I'd try to avoid keeping them with smaller/weaker fish. Also, tigers grow to about three inches long, so they can easily pick on anything near them in size. |

They sometimes get to 2 inches or so, and as with many other barbs, are best kept in schools of 5 or more. |
