| CLOWN LOACHES:FEEDER OR TANKMATE? | |
lil-fishy![]() Enthusiast Posts: 167 Kudos: 176 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Feb-2004 ![]() | Here is some food for thought. Where clown loaches are found naturally they are eaten for dinner. Can you imagine eating an 11" clown loach and not even realizing that the fish is worth over $100 U.S. dollars. |

I've seen piranhas kept with far smaller fish, and there were no disturbances, because they were feed just enough so that they didn't feel the need to attack anything else. But yes, I think even with feeding, fish that small, whatever they are, are going to die. |

They do have a pretty scary spine near their eyes. Tiger barbs, however, would be feeders for those fish. ><> |

Those Clown Loaches will be eaten up like popcorn. -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Trojan_man![]() Enthusiast Posts: 204 Kudos: 191 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Aug-2004 ![]() | I was thinking of adding 5 clown loaches in my 200 gallon tank along with my 20 inch arowana and two 10 inch oscars. Would they get along with each other or the clown loach(about 3 inch each) get eaten? ps Howabout tiger barb? |
superlion![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1246 Kudos: 673 Votes: 339 Registered: 27-Sep-2003 ![]() | adult is more appropriate, considering they can grow to 14". But yes, getting one that large would be quite expensive if you're lucky enough to live where you can even obtain one. (much less several) ><> |

Dolf![]() Enthusiast Posts: 203 Kudos: 180 Votes: 46 Registered: 09-May-2004 ![]() | Never seen a full grown clown loach, but a lfs has some for sale in the 6-8 inch range. They are priced at $100 to $150. Can't imagine what a full grown clown would go for. |
Trojan_man![]() Enthusiast Posts: 204 Kudos: 191 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Aug-2004 ![]() | I think it will be very expensive to buy a full grown one. Clown Loaches are very slow grower. My "Big" fish be long dead when they get to be that size. ![]() |

You're talking about putting in 2-3 inch fish with extremely accomplished hunters that are four or five times their size. |
