it was the third time when i saw the big apple snail swallowing my last wagtail platty today...can they do that? the first two cases i ignored when he ate a female guppy and then a sparkling green platy, but now, im suspecting him as the killer...i thought the the fish had died naturally and the snail was just eating the dead body
well, to tell u a bit of history, that happened in my 20g where i had some livebearers (three platties, two guppies), a 3 inch rainbow shark and a big apple snail...
i think the fish should be too quick for the snail to be get caught like this, but.....
the snail now looks to love the taste of flesh and doesn't pay much attention to the lettuce and sliced cucumber that he once used to love im worried abt the shark now

All I can say is the shark will get too big for your aquarium so you might want to get rid of that...

Hi there,
the shark will outgrow your tank, they need
29g for a single fish at maturity.
Snails are unlikely to be able to catch and kill
healthy fish, except maybe in large cana varieties.
They will definitely eat dead or dying fish though
that they can get to on the surface or bottom of the tank.
Id bet the fish was dead before the snail ate it.

How fast was the fish moving?

That snail is turbo or your fish was not firing on all cylinders.

yes, its a cana...and a large cana
and i didnt want to quote this, but now i have to...the last platty that i saw grabbed by the snail was still alive and the snail had pealed off half of its skin...i cudnt do much at that time...then it swallowed it

and lo!
the very next day it deposited a huge clutch of eggs over the water level... looks like its really enjoying the protein rich fish
