Do you know how when people catch bass, or other fish, they have them preserved, and hang them on the wall?

Well... lets say your FAVORITE fish died, could you have them preserved?

Also, im sure alot of people here like fishing (I hope) where do you go to get a fish preserved?

Taxidermy's pretty common... & people get it done to all sorts of critters... & i guess you could get it done to one of your fish if you reaaaallly wanted to. ... something the size of a tetra might not work too well though

Easiest way to find someone who could do it would probably be to look in the Yellow Pages...

true.. i never thought of that.

I figures that taxidermy was something differet than for fish.

I guess im a pervert, but i think it would be cool to have my 8" clown loach, you know.. as a paperweight or something

I think the only thing that would make it a little sick was if you had a school of 8" clown loach paperweights.

I know I couple of people that had large lake and rainbow trout mounted. One had a large laker mounted on piece of wood and then a smaller fish mount on the same piece. It look like the 20+ laker was chasing the smaller one. I know it is not cheap to stuff fish, I believe in my area it was like 200+.

People actually do this regularly. I used to date a girl, whos dad was a taxidermist. And he was always asking me for pics of different aquarium fishes to he could paint the mounts he was making of peoples pet fish.

And yes, all mounted fish are painted, as when they are being preserved, they come out completely white. So the taxidermists air brush the colors back onto the fish. Eyeballs are marbles.

No, they strip the insides of the fish, muscle, intestines, internal organs, and all, from inside, leaving just the skin only. They put this in a bucket of formaldihyde for a few days, then they take it out, and put the skin over a mold, or model if they have one, then let it dry, paint it, and mount it to something. Where ever the mounted part is to be, back side of fish, bottom, ect, this is where they make the inscision to take out all the inside "stuff". He actually let me mount several fish that I have caught while fishing.

Have you ever seen snake heads or tarantulas in clear acrylic? I wonder how a fish would turn out.

Freeze-drying also works well for fish as a taxidermy technique, I understand...but not all taxidermists have the equipment needed.
