Hi there just got back from an LFS, I had to rehome my congo tetras they were getting very nippy with my angels and my dojo loach I mean angels yes they fight back but a blind dojo loach trying to rest well that was the last straw.

So in the shop I took them too he had a big catfish at least 5-7 inches long and it hid behind a piece of drift wood. Now it wasnt a bottom dwelling catfish it was more the shape of a glass catfish and he was selling it as an African three stripe glass cat. But I think its a mis ID because I didnt think they grew that big? Ive done a quick search for ID and the only thing I can find that look similar in fairness is the african three stripe and also the pasangious catfish (iridesent shark. To describe it, it was silver with a thin head and a wide mouth with big barbels 2 big 2 small I think. If it dosnt grow much bigger than 6 inches Im going to bring it home because it had really outgrown the tank.

Also the mystery fish is a fish that is popping up in a lot of LFS labeled as Violet Sharks, yet when I ask for any more info no one can give me it. Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on them? Ive seen some big ones around nearly 6 inches in display tanks, there are about 30-40 in the city in various LFS.

thanks Andy (y)

*edit* after an afternoon of research on the catfish sites Im starting to think its an ompok species of catfish

It would help if we knew where you are from, or what city and area you are talking about. As this is a world wide site, you could be from any city in the world. Thus, new species of fish could be "popping up" all around you, and yet not even known let alone seen by the majority of others that frequent this site.

Also, the ID of a fish can be and is very hard without a pic. Many times even very hard with a pic. If you can, it would be nice to see a pic to help determine the species of fish you are talking about. Most lfs won't mind if you take a pic of the fish, just use your camera phone if nothing else.
