It's sad, I know, but I can't make a decision.

I have a bowfront 46 gallon tank. My two Jewel Cichlids have now mated twice within a couple of weeks so I decided to set up a 20 gallon breeding tank for them (having a breeding pair in a populated tank is terribly disruptive). However, having shopped around, I'm inexorably drawn towards a 55 gallon tank, which will evitably become a community tank instead of a breeding tank.

So what would you recommend? What would give me the most satisfaction?

1. Create a larger but different community tank
2. Build a breeding tank

Your views would be appreciated because I'm drawn to the point of getting both!!!

Go with a community. If they're comfortable in the tank dont mess with them. I would suggest to look at 75gs mine was about 20 bucks more than a 55g. The only thing is that the filtration and heaters cost a bit more but if you order online that can offset cost

I made the smaller, breeding choice because my mollies just kept whipping them out and so that I could set up the water to meet their needs, temp, salinity, all that. Now, its a SMALL community tank and I'm in the market for a larger one. hmmmmm, funny how that happens

It would appear that the vote is unanimous... bigger tank and more fish. :%)

Thanks for all your comments.

My thoughts exactly

I guess I would say, what are you going to do with the fry? If you are planning on setting up a continuous out fish project then go with the breeder tank. I think I made a mistake and overextended my fish enjoying ability. I have a 110 Gal with African Mbuna, a 55 with misc community, a 30 brackish, 2 ten misc, and a 55 with breeding aulonocara. Beware of too many tanks. They get harder to enjoy as every weekend you are cleaning tanks or you have a very full day when you do.

Why don't you get a breeding tank for your Jewel Cichlids. You'll have alot of fun with them & in the near future get a community tank.
