Some species live as short as 6 months, most others just as long as other tropical fish. Most killifish species stay small, but Fundulopanchax sjoestedti(the blue gularis) can get to about 5 inches, some of the american Fundulus species and too. One species of Nothobranchius gets to over 6 inches and preys on other notho species living in the same pool. Average size would be in the 2-3.5 inch range for most commonly seen species. |

They may not be the most attractive, but they are unique, plus they're the most commonly seen killi seen in petstores. No idea how long they live, I've had one for almost a year now though. |

Most of the non-annuals live 3-5 years, with some living 10+ years. While the Golden Wonder killi, is the popular one in the lfs at this time, they change every few years. Before the Golden Wonder, the Gardeneri was the more popular one seen in lfs. And the Gardeneri is still one of the more popular killis amongst killi keepers, as well they have the largest sub-species groups of all the killis. For beginners, many still suggest the Gardeneri as one of the easiest to keep, and breed. They can be bred in as little as a 2 gallon tank, without much problem. For more info, try The American Killifish Association at http://www.aka.org/ HTH...... There is always a bigger fish... |
