I have two blue convict cichlids, and they have laid several hundred eggs in my tank. When these eggs hatch, is there anything special I should do for them? any special food, or water conditions I should maintain for them?

Okay, I have no experience with convicts but I've raised Angels and for them you need Baby Brine shrimp. So there is an article on the top of this forum titled "Hatching BBS" go there and start hatching. The alternative is some type of commercial fry food or frozen <(BABY)] Brine shrimp.

Next you need to get a bigger tank if they are in your 10 gallon. From what I've read Convicts are very good at procreation and if you have hundreds of eggs, you'll probably have hundreds of baby fish.

Looks like a busy weekend.

Have fun and good luck, Mike

Why thank you, and yes....you're right about the tank size thing, although I've got no other tank to put them in. I'm going to try and find them all fitting homes, although I've got to work out this feeding thing. I'll look into some frozen or live baby shrimp, thank you!

crushed up cichlid flakes will also work. that's what I've fed my convict fry and they're growing very nicely. also, there are several fry crumble foods you can buy that will work wonderfully. you might check out http://www.kensfish.com they have a great selection of foods that are half the cost of what you'd find in an lfs. even with the shipping costs (which are minimal) you'll still save a bundle. this is where I buy all my foods now.
