I have a 40 gallon tank.

I currently have 1 firemouth cichlid and 5 yoyo loaches.

I looking for a good schooling fish that would go well with them.

anyone have any suggestions looking for a small school of 6-10

What do you want exactly?
bottom dwellers?
middle water?
surface swimmers?

Yoyo's stay at the bottom, firemouth bottom/middle, I would suggest something up top. Firemouths aren't all that aggressive, so your choices are pretty open. Given the slow nature of your tank, i'd suggest a school of giant danios, or colombian red fin tetras Both are mid/top swimmers, too big for the firemouth to eat, and should be fast enough to move if the 'mouth gets nasty, but that's unlikely.

Hatchetfishes also fit that bill nicely and IME, are a little more energetic than tetras, especially if the firemouth likes territories that are slightly higher than average firemouths.

I concurr with Corydoran on the hatchetfish, just be sure that your tank is well covered as hatchets are excellent jumpers
