I keep 9 clown loaches in a 79 gallon custom tank, but I plan to upgrade when the clowns grow bigger. They are so coooolll

But if you dont plan to upgrade anytime soon, I would suggest some blue rams (they are simply beautiful) and gouramis or angel fish. Angel fish are less agressive towards each other than gouramis, while gouramis are more colourful. Both have great character.

Once nice crown betta would also be good.

The reason clown loaches can't "happily" be kept in a 55g is because they need to be kept in groups like Sirbooks said, and 3 or more 8inch Clown Loaches can't fit into a 55g.

You can get a snakeskin gourami (Trichogaster pectoralis). They grow to 8" long (but even bigger in the wild), but are completely peaceful and won't bother even the cardinal tetras.

Here's a (crappy) picture of mine with a full-grown Brochis splendens for size comparison. The gourami just hovered there and wouldn't actually eat the food until the cory was done. My pearls on the other hand, would get so distracted biting and chasing that cory away from the food that they themselves would forget to eat it!

Nah, clown loaches won't fit in a 55 gallon. They grow to at least eight inches, and need to be kept in groups.

I like the idea of adding keyholes, you should go with that. Maybe one keyhole, and a shoal of cories? You should really give cories a good look, they're great fish.

I have a 55 gallon stocked with 1 keyhole cichlid and 6 neon tetras. Any ideas for a vibrant, large, fish that could be kept with my other inhabitants. Any suggestions welcome,

Andrew

I have a 48 gallon bow front tank with 2 keyholes. I have a pearl Gourami and he get along great with the Keyholes. I also have 7- Rasboras and 9 Rummynose tetras and 6 cories.

I say add another Keyhole and then a Pearl.

Yeah I say you should get at least one more keyhole, that way the other one won't get as lonely.
Also think about the cories, a small school of pandas would look real nice
And I like the angel idea as well.

Try to add a few more keyholes cichlds (at least one more) and you could up the tetra school a few more if you wanted.

I would get some juvinile angels for the tank as they get pretty cool when there a little bigger and would be a good addition to a planted tank. Neons should be fine w/ angels as long as you have a good young angel. I would increase the school to atleast ten if possible and add a bristlenose and a school of cories/ottos. And perhaps some rams. HtH

Pearl gouramis would be a nice addition. Or a group of rainbowfish, some of them have fantastic coloring.

I agree with a bottom feeder of some sort as well. A nice-sized group of cories or loaches, which are my personal favorite.

I like the idea of increasing your school of tetras as well.

Well, though some might disagree, I think you can safely add a juvenile angelfish. They will supposedly eat neon tetras, but I believe that if you add the angel while its young, then it will ignore the tetras when it gets big enough to eat them.

Also, I think that adding more tetras would be a good idea, so they will feel safer once you do add a larger fish. Also, the more neons, the more beautiful they look. In addition to more tetras, I think that a nice shoal of cories would be a good idea. They are great little catfish, and very peaceful. You can't go wrong with cories!
