I agree obsexion909. I've been comparing the prices of buying all the components separately as compared to a kit and so far it's not looking to be a whole lot more expensive to buy each piece on its own. And doing this you can get exactly what you want and won't have to worry about upgrading what came with the kit later.

I spent about $300 US for my setup including stand. Petsupermarket in the US has the best prices for stands I have seen. Actually, I bought my entire setup there. However, I wouldn't recommend the filter at stores. By it online at www.petsolutions.com. Penguin 330's go for about $45US at the store but $25US online.

I just bought a used 125 plus all the trimmings for $300. I am so excited! Luckily I work for a construction company and have 9 men to help me! (they know if I'm not happy, they aren't happy!) Plus I'll probibly bribe them with beer.

I bought one of those 55 gallon kits from Wal-Mart, and haven't had any problems with them. Although I did buy a Penguin 330, and am saving the original filter as a back-up. Everything has been going fine for almost 7 months now. I also bought a 10 gallon kit from them, but I have had no problems, and it's been almost a year now. Some good suggestions here..........your money, your fish.

I wouldn't buy a Wal-Mart kit because I bought one of their 10 gallon sets to house a few guppies and a year later the sealant holding the glass together appears to be detiriorating. I've never had this happen on any other tank I've ever owned.

I'm looking at kits myself because it appears to be cheaper, but I'm looking at going with either the Petsmart All-Glass setup which comes with Top Fin accessories ($159) or Petco's kit which is also All-Glass and comes with Whisper accessories ($199). I believe the Wal-Mart tank is priced around $150 so I'd personally go with a "name brand" aquarium for a few bucks more over Wal-marts stuff.

I got my 55 gallon kit at WalMart, yes I had to get a different filter but I was and still am extremely happy with it, also got the stand there...total spent including rocks and decoration $300, that or try the Greensheet (we get them in Houston), or other similar papers there are pet stores who are willing to cut deals, and deliver...the delivery is the only thing that would have made my deal even better...Heidi

hey andrew

it just really depends on where you look for a tank. my LFS just given a 75usg tank with everything and they r going to sell it to me for $100.00!

i told my WHOLE family that i looking for aquariums, pretty soon i had 10 unused tanks in my basement!

plus a well spent $200.00 on a 120usg!

so keep looking for something cheap and good

good luck on your search!

Our 55 gal cost a little over $400.00 (USD)..... Came with rock, filter (paid a little bit more than the actual "kit" to upgrade to an Emperor Double Bio Wheel), full hood, heater, stand, etc.... In other words, complete! (Haven't regretted my purchase at any time - even though, comparatively to our household income the price was rather high - because the enjoyment my husband and I have reaped from this aquatic world has far exceeded the monetary cost!)

$179.99 for AGA 55 gallon tank, penn plax 200 watt heater, AC300 filter, and a bunch of other little goodies (amquel, etc.).

EDIT--also comes with the full hood.

you're better off buying everything separate so you can get the filter / heater / etc. that you want. but the classifieds and garage sales are great places to get a tank and stand cheap.

personaly i'de reccomend buying everything yourself, those packages usualy aren't much good. Get an AQ 300, a hagen or ebo-jager heater (the seccond one if you can, the first will always be available) etc.

The tank is the walmart kit is ok... but you'll need to buy new filters and such for it.

I spent about $320 on my 55g, that includes stand, lights, sand, 65lbs of texas holy rock, filters and heater.
