I've got cyno. all over the gravel and a few of the plants. I just recently changed the filter cartriges. I have 170 watts of lighting. In my 40 watt strip I have a plant bulb and in the 130 PC I have 2 blue and 2 whitle bulbs. How should I get rid of this crap?

Appreciate the help.

Read all of [link=This]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/50886.html" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] thread. Blackouts, not just lights out, works a charm on this stuff. You need to also check your nitrAte levels and make sure they're high enough.

agreed. take plantbrain and babel's advice. it's worked for me so far. i actually had that problem before i posted that thread, and i solved it using the methods that plantbrain talks about. i just didn't keep up with my dosing regimen and it came back on me. as i said, so far so good this time around

I got this stuff called Chemiclean. It's supposed to get rid of it.

Does anyone have any experience with this stuff?

As a rule, I don't like to use chemicals in my tank. They often do bad stuff to the water, and fish generally don't like 'em anyways. I would just follow the above advice, it usually works. If that doesn't solve the problem, then try the chemical thing.

fishnewbie, the problem with using chems or meds on cyno is that you're not addressing the root problem. You may get rid of it but unless you address the cause of the cyno it will keep coming back.

Yeah, I just changed out my filter media for new and a week later did a huge water change. I think I've solved most of the problem. I think the chems will just help to get rid of the little I have left over.

It will come back..to haunt you. It's like a hungry predator....waiting for a chance to pounce. Let your guard down even a bit, and :WHACK: you're lion chow.

Seriously though, you'll have to keep your tank at optimal conditions ALL the time, or the stuff will literally come back overnight. I feed my fish every other day now to avoid a phosphate explosion. :-/
