I have a ziplock bag with all flakes crushed to almost powder. My tank seems to keep clean like this, and the food spreads through the tank for everyone. Does anyone else do this?

Thanks

Imo

That puts more food on the ground and less into their bodies. I guess it depends on what your feeding.

I crush the Flakes & feed them to the little fry. For the grown up fish, i just leave the Flakes as they are.

I crush my flakes a little because most of my fish are very small and I have more bottom guys than others.

I grind them to size according to the size of fish mouth.

For my baby Pandas, I grind flakes to powder using an improvised pestle and mortar type arrangement - it's actually a wooden egg cup and some wooden knobbly stick thing that I use as a substitute for a 'bought' pestle and mortar

I also used to grind food for the Cardinals until they grew big enough to take on the full sized flakes. Now they just attack the flakes like little sharks and provide me with some entertainment while doing so!

I crumble flakes up for the tetras sometimes, but the other fish I have eat full sized flakes no problem. Have a feeling that a lot of fine ground flakes just end up going straight into the filter when they sink.
