I tried looking for these guys on the profiles page but couldn't find anything. The scientific name is Aphyosemion Striatum. Can anyone give me some info about this kind of fish? I'm thinking about buying a pair. Right now I'm cycling my 29 gallon with 3 Giant Danios. Thinking of keeping the Danios beause they are so fun to watch. Do Killifish get along with Danios? Any info anyone has will help.

Have you tried a google search....looking quickly @results given for an advanced search using the scientific name gives lots of pages that might be some help...

Also you might ask to have your thread moved to the killi section .

^_^

From Baenschs Aquarium Atlas:
Peaceful fish, needs tank with dark bottom & plenty veg with subdued lighting, hiding spots (plants and roots). Water should be clean, soft (up to 12 dGH) & slightly acidic (~6.0). Also, A touch of salt (one teaspoon to two gallons)prevents the growth of parasites.. Cover needed, as this species is a jumper.
Food: carnivore, primarily all types of live food, also frozen, but ignores flakes.
Temp = 72 F, 22 C; length: 2 5cm; length of tank = 19.5 50 cm
Although it is not mentioned most killies listed in this book say species tank only, so Im not sure if this fish is OK, but they need some pretty acidic water. Very nice looking fish, its on me short list of killies I might want when I have the room to set up a tank for them, its in my 5 year plan.

hmm... i have these fishes. they aren't difficult to breed. they are a good community fish. they do not have a very short lifespan like the nothobranchius group of killifishes.

here's a link i posted on craigslist.

http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/pet/26654128.html

it has a link with some information as well.

Whezo! That is so funny - you are the person I was thinking of buying the fish from in the first place! ]

Well here's my dillema - I really like the look of these fish and I was thinking of getting some for my 29 gallon (now cycling) but I kinda wanna keep the Danios in my 29 gallon and someone else said killis don't get along with Danios. So then I thought about getting the killis for my 10 gallon (now empty) except I had a particular aquascape in mind for the 10 gallon that doesn't involve any plants (just rock)and I also heard that killis like a well planted tank.

Do you breed killies? Might you have some more available at a later date? It'll take me a while to get the 10 gallon up and running due to this hobby being so costly! I need to save some $$'s first.

I may still have some at a later date. Yes I bred these killis and they don't really require a planted tank but they'd like to hide sometimes. They lay eggs in plants but I use mops for them.

Actually, I don't think maintaining killifishes are really expensive. They don't require heat, filter, nor air pump... probably a nice landscape for your own pleasure. I just give them water changes and java moss.

What is the average lifespan of a killi...or does it change between species?

It changes between species. For annuals, like a year. For others about 2-4 yrs...
