Or are the fish I'm picking really delicate? I have a 29 gallon which has in it:

2 angels
6 rummynose tetras.

I would like to increase the school of rummynose's to maybe 9, add a school of 7 cardinals, 3-4 Jullii corys and a few otos. Would this be ok in the tank? My lfs has a school of 7 cardinals right now, they said they are "touchy" fish...just how touchy are they? I have also heard rummynoses are touchy. Will my tank be too hard to maintain? I am a relative beginner to the hobby, but I have been researching fish, etc. and have decided this is what I want. Will I be setting myself up for failure? These fish aren't cheap, the cardinals alone are 6.99 each!

I think those additions would definitely overstock it. I might add the cories and call it quits at that.

The corys aren't likely to be Jullii, but no matter.

29's can be difficult because, while they do have more gallons they don't have much more surface area than a 20. If' you're looking @"rules of stocking" dont' really consider the 1" per gallon rule. Quite a few fish are exceptions to that rule (goldfish, plecos, angelfish all need more gallons per inch).

Increasing your surface agitation and filtration will help out quite a bit. As for cards being "touchy", well they are more hardy than neons, although they are becoming just as heavily farmed and are therefore open to as many health problems.

You really don't have the room to add a school of six cories, and I wouldn't suggest adding fewer than six, because they fare much better with at least that number. If I were you, I would add either the ottos, or maybe a smaller pleco, such as a clown or bn. Otherwise, you'll be overstocked for sure.

If you drop the cardinals, then you will have no problem as long as you have good surface agitation. Also, you need to take GOOD care of your aquarium.

What if I left the school of rummynoses at 6, could I add 7 cardinals then?

6 corys would probably be tops. I'd say no more than 8 Rummynoses. I'd hesitate to recommend Cardinals. Remember. Cardinals look an awful lot like neons, and neons are a natural prey of angels.

The reason I thought of adding the cardinals was the display tank at the lfs...they have a huge black velvet angel in that tank, with a school of cardinals...

Cardinals will fare fine with angels.
