To be fair I can't really blame the wife we are living in a fairly small apartment. We went house hunting last week, she was think "hmmm put the sofa here...." I was thinking "hmmm could get a tank in here, another over there......"

To curb the appetite and not use up too much space, I'm going to set up a couple of small planted cube tanks, maybe 12x12x12 and do some small aquascapes and stock with female bettas.

its not that hard... only bring the amount of money you need for what you want... thats what i do.... as for the cory... i've had just 1 in my tank for about 6 months now and hes jest as fat and happy as he can be.... so just one isnt all that bad... ( the one i bought him with all died when i got a fungus in my tank)

I always get angry when I see just one cory or one tetra left, b/c then I feel like some idiot is going to put it in a tank with out the shoal it deserves so I buy it, and that makes my tank go over the stocking limit...anyone who can go to a LFS and just get exactly what they came for w/o practically crying is very strong willed...

Every time I go to the fish store, I'm going there only for food or something simple, but still manage to spend at least 50 bucks and have plans for another aquarium....and that's without talking to anyone at the store. My wife has given up a long time ago on the " I thought you were just going for....." comments, lol. Instead, she's moved to the " and where are we supposed to put that?" comments.

When you stop at a fish store for something like food or filter media and you try to keep your eyes away from the tanks for fear of temptation but you end up looking and the tanks are stocked with hard to find fish you’d really like to keep. But then you remember you’re fully stocked and you have to walk away frustrated and depressed. Then you go home and spend 2 hours looking at your tank trying to see if there is a way to squeeze them in.

Last night I stopped at a local store (I live in West Java, about 35km outside Jakarta) and of course snuck a peek at the tanks, which as luck would have it were full of hard to find fish). The ones that caught my eye were:

Chocolate Gourami: A lovely little fish ( I’m a gourami fan), only get to about 2” but very demanding water quality and feeding wise, and need to be kept in groups. But would have loved to give them a try.
Hillstream Loaches: Must admit I’m not not really a fan of fish that suck on the glass, give me the creeps, but a very interesting looking fish – reminds me of the baby creatures in the Alien movies !
Unknown Rasbora: Very tiny but very pretty fish. Definitely a Rasbora, but not sure which one yet. Pink body with a very small but dinstinct and perfectly round dot just before the caudal fin and huge (relative to the tiny body) bright green eyes. A big school of 15-20 would look awesome. If anyone has any ideas on the id of this fish…..

But, I’m fully stocked and no room at the inn, so I had walk away. Can somebody please explain to my wife that I NEED MORE TANKS

Bensaf, I totally understand ya.. Hey, Bensaf's wife, it's allright for Bensaf to get more tanks. Tanks are good, Mm Kay ?

Yes, My 29 gal is packed, in my 90 i want to add one female oscar or a Female Scarlet Krib.. The LFS won't get the Scarlet Kribs anymore, just regular Kribs, which are smaller, and will get eaten in that tank. Adult female oscars are hard to find. (hard to tell also)

Then, I see the snakeskin gouramis and just stare, wishing I had the room. Or think I should set up my empty 29 for a krib tank or to keep breeding guppys or platys.. I have to get rid of a mean little firemouth because more tank setups is just not an option in this 2 bdrm apt.. I even thought also, get rid of my 90 gal corner, and replace it with two 30's on a double stand. My oscar said no.

There's always some fish or plant or something that we want to buy, or something for that next project. Where does it end ? I currently want to go flourite and double the light in my 29 but what's the point if I also want to upgrade it to a 40 to 50 gal long ? The insanity never ends buddy. Welcome to FishProfiles !

ps - Hey Larry C. I'm 32 but how's about your family adopting me anyway ? I can rent the basement and you can still put a large tank down there. As long as I can setup my 4 tanks !

I have a 60 in my daughter's room, a 30 in my son's room and a 30 in the living room. My wife said she would trade me for an upgrade of the 30 gal. in the living room if I moved it to the basement? I'll just add another tank, hopefully a 150 gal. to the basement!!!!!

Theresa,

Not an exclamation point. The shape is right, the dot at the tail is right, but no horizontal stripe and the color was plae pink rather then red.But these fish were tiny, they were in a tank with neons and made the neons look like whales ! They could have been juvies and the color will deepen and change. I've tried searching the net but nothing.

The obvious thing would be ask the store but they usually only know the local Indonesian name or nothing at all.

I think the rasbora you mentioned is an exclamation point, Boraras urophthalmoides. Try this link.

There's one particular lfs, about an hour drive for me, that always has some more unusual fish. I love to just wander around and check them all out.

Oh yes... I saw a tank at my fav LFS the other day - absolutely a RIOT of movement from dozens of long finned serpae tetras. Simply stunning, really. I was SO about to run to their tank room, pick up a huge tank and stock it full of these beauties.

I've never seen such amazingly gorgeous specimens of this fish. I'd have to sneak the tank in the house though... and somehow I think the 'rents would notice a 55+ gallon tank. Especially since my room is completely full, so it would have to go elsewhere.

But dang, I want those fish!

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

You can never have enough fish tanks.
We have a 180gal, a 150gal, a 110gal, a 55gal, 4x45gals and a 30gal tank and I could still fill another tank with other fish I want
That's probably not going to help your cause though bensaf

I understand that feeling completely. Even just looking at fish online, I start thinking about how much it would cost to setup a tank for new fish. Heck, even common fish gets my mind going.
