 | Drift wood smelling funny. |
FishKeeperJim   Big Fish Member MTS Anonymous Posts: 348 Kudos: 208 Votes: 186 Registered: 09-Jan-2007   | Hi guys I have some Driftwood soaking to get it to sink, and when I added water to the tub its in I noticed a funny smell coming from it. Is this normal? Or should I scrap the wood and get new. (the wood is pretty old as it is.)  My Tanks at Photobucket |

If not then it's normal and the smell should go away with the tannins over time. If you do test ammonia then throw the piece out because there's too much organic material breaking down on it. I had a piece like that and it caused high nitrates in the tank for months before I just trashed it. |
