| Egyptian Mouthbrooder Breeding Question | |
conconbettas![]() Small Fry Posts: 3 Kudos: 5 Votes: 0 Registered: 25-Jun-2004 ![]() | Hey- I have had trouble finding the answer to this question but I really need it answered. Okay I am going to get sometime over the summer one male and 2 female Egyptian Mouthbrooders (P. Multicolor). What I was planning on doing is once the female has put the brood in her mouth is put her in another tank for her to rear her fry is piece then let her rest in my hospital tank before I put her back in the main aquarium. My main question is how do I know when she has put the eggs in her mouth if I missed the spawning? Also does anyone know where to get some Egyptians? Thanks. |

I have tried what you are planning and only resulted in her either eating all the eggs or spitting them out.I usually leave her in the main tank and only move to another tank after around 2 and a half weeks as if she did get stressed by the move and spits them out, the fry would be fully formed. I leave her with the fry for a day before moving her back to the main tank. Also make sure that you provide hiding places for the females (whether they are holding or not) as males are very aggressive and will try and coax females to breed whether they are ready or not. These are only from my own experiences though. You might get a different result. Good luck! |
