Empty 2.5 gallon tank | |
ImRandy85 Enthusiast Bleeding Blue Posts: 254 Kudos: 137 Votes: 75 Registered: 19-Dec-2006 | I've got an empty 2.5 gallon tank sitting around and I need some ideas of what to put in it. I thought about putting a female betta in there and attempting to breed with the male betta that I already have. However, from what I've read about breeding bettas, a 5 or 10 gallon tank would be better suited for that. Someone out there have any ideas? |

A 10 gallon is a good size, and then have a 55 gallon ready for the fry when you move them over. Conditioning is key, make sure you condition both breeders with live fatty foods. For the 2.5 gallon, you should just get a white cloud minnow school. Along with a ADF or a ghost shrimp. Breeding bettas needs alot of research, and isnt as simple as getting a female and getting a male and just dumping them together. I see alot of fishkeepers do this and wonder why they messed up. |

Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | For the 2.5 gallon, you should just get a white cloud minnow school. I disagree with this. WCMMs are fairly active fish, so I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 10, not to mention if you try to fit 6 -- the minimum amount of WCMMs you should keep together -- of ANY fish into a 2.5, you're going to be horribly overstocked. Frankly, there aren't many fish you can keep in a 2.5 gallon. You could maybe, and I stress maybe, get away with a cherry barb pair, but I personally wouldn't do it. I'd suggest something like a shrimp tank. |

I have no idea why people started suggesting such small tanks for white clouds. It's insane. I'd actually suggest more like a 20g. These are not that tiny of fish and they are extremely active along with being schoolers. Even if they just sat there 5-6white clouds does not fit in a 2.5g. If they actually swim they barely fit in a 10g. It's about like putting danios in a tank that small. There's not many fish I'd recommend aside from the betta. The inverts or dwarf frogs are the best for such tiny tanks. I'd just do a planted shrimp tank. Then again I don't like messing with tanks that small in the first place so I'd end up getting a 5g to be less restricted. |

I'd be pretty much fully stocked with that wouldn't I? Maybe I could add a mystery snail after that. Any good techniques for getting the bloodworms to the frog without the betta getting them? |

I think it will be good with just the two. The pottery that growls! |
