It would be happy with three gallons to itself, and sponge filters don't produce too much current (I think, someone will have to confirm or deny this). Just be sure that you have a heater!![]() |

MegTheFish![]() Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 ![]() | I've had this otto for quite some time now and he's been doing fine. I'm afraid to move him because I don't want to end up killing him because everybody says there really sensitive. I'm going to add 2(to make a total of 3) more cardnals so they can school. I was always told you had to have atleast 3 tetras for them to school, then I was told 4, then 6, then 7, now over 10. Its kinda anoyying. Everybody I guess has a different opinion though. I've seen tetras (and cories) school with only 3 fish, so I'm going to go with that because I don't want to cram too many fish in there. I've decided with the 3 gallon I'm either going to get, a male and a female or 3 males. Most likely a male and a female though because I really want to breed guppies again (and either give them to a lfs or give them away to whoever wants them). I have 3 1 gallon tanks laying around that I could set up for them. I've heard and know of some people that have raised guppy fry without aeration/filteration. So if its okay I'm going to do this. I'll be putting the tanks in the warmest room in the house (which is my room) since 1 gallon is too small to have a heater. I have another question. Is there a heater that is small enough to go in a 3 gallon? Its a plastic tank and I was told by the employes at my lfs that its too small to add a heater. If there is a small enough heater, I've never seen them around here. Could somebody suggest a Canadain site that sells them (If there is such a heater). -Meg |

The smallest I'd put them in is a 20. Ottos are also somewhat sensitive to water quality and probably won't appreaciate the instability of a 5 gallon tank. ^_^ ![]() Current [link=Contest Rules]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Aquascaping/44382.html?200412022138" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] ![]() |

MegTheFish![]() Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 ![]() | Oh yah and I live in Canada...don't think my parents would drive me all that way to just get some guppies, lol. ![]() |

MegTheFish![]() Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 ![]() | If I like the males more then I'll prolly get 2 or 3 males instead of getting any females. |
MegTheFish![]() Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 ![]() | I have an empty 3 gallon. Theres a sponge fitler in there, the ones that are round, and its rated for a 10 gallon, so I have to pinch the tubeing so it doesn't bubble over the top, LoL. I don't really know what I want in there...I know I don't have much choices so I can't really "narrow" it down. Thanks, -Meg:%) |

Shrimp, snails, ADF. Not sure about the rest of these but maybe a pair of guppies, platies, or cherry barbs. |

scheibe![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fingerling Posts: 19 Kudos: 22 Votes: 0 Registered: 27-Sep-2004 ![]() | I have to disagree a little bit. I built a 3 gallon tank for myself because it was the only size that would fit on the desk in my dorm room. i have overstocked a little bit, but it is quite a wonderful little aquarium. sometime i plan on posting a pic of it. it has four different types of plants, a glo-lite, two platies, an oto, and a baby molly. they are all doing wonderfully and have been for some months. i enjoy the size because i can manage everything well and keep track of everyone in my tank. i know the overstocking is an issue, but everyone is getting along and is healthy. so, the smaller tanks can have something done with them if you try. |
MegTheFish![]() Banned Posts: 167 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2004 ![]() | I think I'm going to go with a pair of guppies...I really want to try breeding these beautiful fish again (even though with guppies, you don't really have to try to get them to breed, they just do, LoL) I moved my paradise fish from the 3 gallon to the 5 1/2 gallon, and he's loving the extra space There is 1 otto and 1 cardnal tetra also in that tank...I know cardnal's are schooling fish so should I get him some friends? |

I wouldn't try breeding guppies in the 3 gallon because of the size, and you would be quickly overstocked...heck you would need 2-3 females for each male...if you want some guppies, gets 2-3 pretty males that you really like, and put them in there...if you are close to the Houston area, I could give you a couple...
