The fry would be moved out of the 3 gallon once they are born though. I think its fine to have a pair. I know people that have done it...

P.S. none of the fish stores will take back fish (we only have 3....the 4th one was shut down. YYYEEESSSSS!!!!!!! It was the most terrible place every...he didn't know - about fish, or the animals he kept. I wonder what would happen to all the animals he had? He had all different kinds of lizards, rodents, kittens, ciclids, tropical fish...no goldfish though. What usually happens to the animals when they shut down a store?)

The "]" was intended for someone else. And I'm not going to get anymore cardnals. I made another post with what I'm going to do (its gonna be a guppy tank...so be happy) The paradise gourami? He's moved backed to his original tank. I did not kill him.
What are you going on about a 6 gallon now? I'm assuming thats just a typo, because I don't own a 6 gallon.

NO cards in a [5.5] gallon. . . FIND A NEW HOME FOR THE ONE THAT YOU HAVE and give them a school of at LEAST 6. Cards are very sensitive to changes in water chemistry (I know from personal experience) and IMO that is nearly impossible to maintain in a small tank. They won't be able to handle nitrate/nitrite/ammonia spikes that are almost guaranteed to happen in a tank that small. They are also VERY skittish without enough of their own kind to feel secure. Remember, most cards on the market are wild caught and go through a lot of hassle during the shipping process, making them quite sensitive.

read it again.

I'm NOT putting the cards in the 3 gallon, there in the 5 1/2 gallon! Please read my post more carefully next time (and sorry if I didn't make it clear enough)
I already have 1 card from a long time ago in there, and I want to add 2 more. So bassicly you guys are telling me not to get any more and leave him in there byhimself. I think he needs to be in a group so I am adding more. If I could I would fine him a bigger home but the lfs around here won't take back fish. And I don't think anybody would want a single card.

I agree with Tryst. I don't think any Cardinals/tetras should be kept in a tank that small.

If it were my tank i'll put in a Betta.

Wal-Mart makes a 'junior' heater (I think that's the name ) which is for tanks up to 5g. I bought one but don't use it anymore; the fact that's it's basically on/off with no temperature control really made me nervous.

I have a 5g Mini-bow that I keep Endler's in without a heater. I use the incandescent lighting that came with the tank, although I have it on a timer for regularity. The nighttime temp never goes below 74°; daytime is 76-77°.

Okay I'll look into getting a heater.
About the guppy issue, I have spare tanks I could put the baby guppies in (they wouldn't stay in the 3 gallon) and I have sources that will take them once there of age.
Also, I think I should add 2 more cardnals because it would be better then just leaving the one I have right now in there alone. Don't you think?

I used to have a small heater that was below 25watts it didnt have a thermostat, so i used a thermometer to moniter the temp. IMO i wouldnt put cardinals in the 5gallon they really do like a school of at least 6. Preferably ten or more imo. I would only get male guppies for your tank as soon you will be overflowing with guppes.

the heater is specified as a 2-5 gallon heater, assuming your tank is of a normal size that heater should work.

You said there was a heater small enough for a 5 gallon. I was not asking that, I was asking if there was a heater small enough for a 3 gallon.
