My friend knows NOTHING about fish! But several weeks ago, when we were doing research projects in biology, one of my friends did experiments on goldfish, but their group had way too many so she gave the friend in question 5 two inch goldfishes.
My friend bought a 10 gallon tank, but by that time she only had one fish. Last night i came to her house, and she had at least 25 goldfish in that tank, including 4 two inch large ones! (the rest are about 1 inch, they are all feeder fish). I guess she just got goldfish, because they are the cheapest. But does she ever change water in the 10 gallon tank? No, does she even know what bioload or overstalking means? No. I told her her fish look sad (when she had one, it would swim around, now they all just sit there), she says that they are fine. Just hurts to look at them, even though they're feeder fish and all. But she's way overstocked and has never changed the water in the tank

she will just have to learn the hard way.

If she isnt going to listen to you (who seems to know alot about fish) then she will have to find out for herself, and have you to be there saying "I told you so".

I guess it is a little harsh though

With that many fish, your friend wouldn't notice if one at a time became missing. Do you have any bags or plastic containers?

Just kidding, you've done what you can. After your friend's fish die, then I'd explain once again why they died. Something like this:

" You know, as a fish you don't really have the option of going somewhere else if you're uncomfortable or if your living conditions aren't suitable.. that is, unless you want to jump out of the tank and commit suicide. Think about it...being trapped in a small room with about 20 other people, all of you defacating in a small bucket..someone coming daily to give you food. Before very long, with 20 people that bucket would get full pretty fast. Unfortunately, the person bringing you the food doesn't speak the same language as you, and doesn't notice the bucket, and doesn't pay any attention to you when you try to get their attention. After a few weeks, it's overflowing all over the room and most people have stopped using the bucket all together. The person that brings the food scoops up some of the waste every once in awhile but still isn't giving you new bucket. Every time you try to lay down and sleep a bit someone steps on your face. You try to sit down and someone else is already sitting there. You're all pretty short tempered by this point, can't get any rest, every where you try to move to in the room is disgusting but you have no choice but to sit or lay in the filth...it's either that or jump out the window. Someone bumps into you and says " excuse me" and you say " What'd you say!!??" , Them - " I said excuse me, I'm trying to get over there." You -" Get over where?! I can't move here either, ya know." Them- " Like that's my fault..." You - " So, it's MY fault then???" Of course, it comes to blows and you beat the tar out of eachother and the wounds become infected because you're surrounded by filth. The other guy's infection is so bad that he ends up dying, and you're feeling pretty bad yourself...feeling a little weak in the knees..contemplating jumping out of that window. Other people are pretty bad off too...some don't even want to eat anymore because they've given up on ever having enough room to even move around, among other things. As a bonus, the amount of ammonia from the urine is burning peoples' noses and causing severe nasal problems... a few people have died due to breathing problems already and most of the other people are coughing on a regular basis. Why is that person bringing the food every day not doing something?? Let some people go to a different room or something...can't they see the problems we're having here?

Then tell the friend - those people were the fish in your tank. Nice going.

Or you could just explain to them what went wrong and offer advice , but where's the fun in that.
