so, i recently overhauled my 55 gallon tank. it was formerly a malawi tank, but i wanted to do something else.

i work at an LFS, but ive run out of ideas. always know what to say when its a customer tank, but i cant seem to think of what else i want in my own tank. i'm basically just looking for ideas

heres whats in there now:

4 clown loaches ~3" right now, had them about 2 years
1 yoyo loach 3" (rescued him when he was .5" long, from a tank full of convicts)
1 kubotai loach 2"
1 ancistrus plec 4"
9 neon tetra .5"
6 "signal" tetra .75"(theyre a hyphessobrycon, but i dont know which one...kinda look like copelandi)
4 sparkling gourami .5"
6 pygmy cories .5"
1 pair nothobranchius korthausae mafia island .75"
1 male fundulopanchax garnderi? 1.25"

i may throw another 9 neons in for color, but im looking for something 2-4" that wont eat what ive already got.

basically im looking for something to focus the tank. something that will draw the eye.

Before you add more Neons or a larger fish, I would increase the school of Corydoras pygmaeus to at least 12 individuals. They are far more social than the Julii- or Aeneus-type corys.

Also, it sounds like your Signal Tetras might be Moenkhausia hemigrammoides.

close...but they look more like hyphessobrycon bentosi, only paler of body.

same markings though the tail, that pink smudge. same black markings through dorsal as well.

im 90% sure its a Hyphessobrycon sp.

its entirely possible theyre bentosi after all, but when ive raised them in the past, ive never seen the body so pale. its a creamy white, not the pinkish cast bentosi always have. that moenkhausia seems to have a silver body to it.

on the topic of pygmy cories, i was thinking last night of having my boss bring me some more.

Bentosi Tetras ("Hyphessobrycon bentosi") are merely a color variant of Hyphessobrycon rosaceus. They are not considered to be a valid species.

Your tetras are most definitely Hyphessobrycon rosaceus. The species can be variable in coloration.
