I recently bought a nice little silver scat, who is cute as a button but he's a nasty little peice of work...

He's in a tank of splendida rainbows (going australian native)
And he chases after them, occasionally nipping their reddish tailfins.

I didn't know that scat did this, is it normal? Are they usually fin nippers? Or is this just him chasing red things and not realising they're attached to his tank mates!

Scats can be quite agressive towards some fish. Are these fish's fins that the scat is nipping green? Because if so that is normal. Scats eat plants very quickly to what I've read and I've heard of occasions where they mistake green fins for plants.

No, they're red.

But then again, he loves a good feed of bloodworms...

Scats do tend to be fin nippers. It can be controlled somewhat by keeping them in a small school, but since they get quite large (12 inches) this requires a huge tank! They also prefer and do best in SW as adults.
