Hi, Desiredusername

To answer your first question, Yes, I think you could probably add a few more neons/neon sized fish OR a mate for your dwarf gourami, allthough the latter would present you with another set of gourami related issues to think about.
If your only going to add more neons you could probably add a maximum of ten more, however this will bring you to very close to the maximum stocking for this tank depending on your filtration, but if you are going to add another dwarf gourami then don't add any more fish, ok maybe a few more neons but that would be about all.

I see you are planning on adding glass shrimp to this tank, I would strongly advise you to re-think this addition, most gourami species will eat your shrimp without a second thought and even if the shrimp are too large for it to eat, the gourami will probably still harass them to death over time and it will be waiting for them to moult so it can take advantage of them while their shell is soft.

If the gourami wasn't in that tank I would suggest 3 to 5 shrimp for that sized tank and a maximum of 10 shrimp considering that you want some small fish in there also. Another point of consideration is that some shrimp are territorial to a degree and would fight with each other if they were in too close a proximity to their own kind.

The snail should be fine with whatever choice you make.

Dwarf gouramis usually aren't too bad for attacking shrimp but I wouldn't stick anything expensive in there. Make sure the shrimp have plenty of hiding places and test it with a couple of the ghost/glass shrimp if you can get them cheaply. $.25 each here. The applesnail is a bit more likely to work but gouramis are also known for picking on snails so it's hit or miss. Most dwarfs don't really seem to pay attention to such things but the potential is still there. The larger the gourami species it seems the less likely they are to attack inverts. My 3 spots never bothered the shrimp or snails, the dwarf gouramis mostly ignored them with a few exceptions, but the small gouramis like sparkling and spiketails would relentlessly hunt them down. They'd wipe any tank of shrimp in a day and of snails within the week.

sham, i only plan to put ghost shrimp in there ayway.....25 cents! i have to order them on line and pay 90cents each + delivery.
The snails i have seen are almost as big as the Dg so they should be fine. If i got two would they overpopulate?

Also, what about switching neons for Zebra Danios?
