If you are having uneaten food, maybe you are feeding too much & so you must cut down on foods. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Also food that is improperly stored can cause aflatoxin poisoning. This mould can be fatal. Also store food according to the manufacturer instructions and never use expired food. |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | uneatten food will fowl water causing fish to die in untreated, so it would make sense to clean the tank and and uneatten food. |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | All organic material that is not living and growing will be broken down by bacteria into ammonia. Nonliving organic material would be fish food, fish waste, and dead plant matter while living would include any fish or plants. Ammonia is toxic but gets turned by other bacteria into nitrites. Nitrites are less toxic but still deadly and once again bacteria turns nitrites into even less toxic nitrates. Nitrates are the least toxic form but if left to build can also be deadly. You would need around 40 times as much nitrate to be as toxic as ammonia. It's preferable to keep nitrates below 20ppm and some fish still won't tolerate nitrates kept in that range. If you don't keep your tank clean then either the nitrates will get high enough to do damage or kill your fish or your tank will run out of space for the bacteria to live and you will start to get ammonia and nitrites which will kill fish and possibly within a few days. So no the fungus will not kill your fish directly but the food that is breaking down and allow the fungus to grow will. |
