And he has some oddities in his collection. First of all, there is this beastie. A characin that looks vaguely Flame Tetra shaped, but which lacks the characteristic black marks seen on that fish, and what is more possesses a LOT more yellow than any Flame Tetra I've ever seen, not to mention a different shade of red. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's in a display aquarium with coloured lighting, it's that shade of red even when it's away from the red spotlight! Pic: Mystery Tetra Second, A Killifish. I know it's an Epiplatys species, but WHICH Epiplatys is something of a mystery for the moment. Something I'm busy looking around the web to try and redress, but given that there are a good few Epiplatys species to choose from, and that they have numerous population variants to boot, this one could prove to be a fun one. Pic: Mystery Killie Enjoy identifying these! ![]() |

I've seen a "fancy" type of flame tetra once or twice, which lacked the black stripe and was a little more intense in color. Supposedly this strain was produced in captivity. Besides the different appearance, they seem about the same as the regular flame tetra. |

I'm still having no luck tracking down the Epiplatys species - just scanned through ALL the species on this page and so far, the only species that is green enough to be mine is Epiplatys chevalieri, which differs markedly in appearance from my fish in specific features (such as the absence of the black markings on the body just above the anal fin). Plus, Fishba However, out of all the Epiplatys species I've scanned, chevalieri is the only one slender enough to be mine. If there are any Killie specialists who know something about this fish, please get in touch! ![]() |

The one I photographed has more red around the face, but otherwise, it's a match. Now all I need is the Killie identifying! ![]() Thanks LHG! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It transpires that despite the similarity in shape, this is NOT an Epiplatys species. It is in fact, from what I can gather courtesy of this page, the Ceylon Killifish, Aplocheilus dayi. [link=Here is a close up] http://www.fishba And here for comparison is my shot Job well done ![]() ![]() |
