You might want to watch the gouramies with the cories. I don't know if my gold just has an attitude problem, but he tends to pick on the cories. They are great fish though, very friendly and cute!

...Except the fact that they get 3" long each and are fairly active fish.

Peppered cories should be okay, because there is plenty of room in this tank. Plus, the danios and gouramis will hang around the surface and the middle of the tank, leaving the bottom completely for the cories's use. Some might think otherwise, but I don't see a problem with the peppered cories.

I wouldn't use peppered corys... They are a large species and it's not uncommon for them (especially the females) to reach three inches.

I would stick with smaller species, like most species in the Julii group. This includes species like C. julii, C. trilineatus, C. schwartzi, C. leucomelas, C. panda, C. arcuatus, C. reticulatus, C. sodalis, C. similis, C. adolfoi, C. duplicareus, and C. axelrodi to name some.

Also, many species in the Elegans group would be good. These are C. elegans, C. nanus, C. napoensis, C. mamore, C. bilineatus, C. undulatus, C. guapore, and C41 (but I might be forgetting one).

Yup, you could add a shoal of six peppered cories. They will be quite happy in your setup, especially since they don't have to compete with any other bottom feeders.

For a twenty gallon tank can I put in 6 zebra danios and 2 dwarf gouramis? But if i put a 10gallon filter with the 20g filter could I put in some kind of bottom feeder(s)?

Peppered, pandas or trilineatus...my favorite three cories, all good choices

Oh I like pygmy cories too. Very small, only 1" or so. They like to be in larger groups but because of their size that would be ok for your tank.

Any cory that stays around the two inch mark would go great in your tank. Something like pandas or trilineatus (commonly sold as C. jullii). There are a few cories (like bronze cories) that'll get bigger (around 3 inches)...they would just add too much to your bio-load.

They sound like good complements - speedy mid-dwellers and slower top-dwellers.

Good luck.

I think it sounds like a nice setup. I'd definitely get some bottom feeders, they'd balance out the stocking for the tank.

Just make sure to have some plants that reach the surface and/or some floating plants so the two gouramis have some hiding places.

Yup, your stocking list sounds just fine. A school of active danios would have a good amount of room in there, and the two gouramis would have space to avoid each other if they wanted to. Some bottom feeders wouldn't be a bad idea. I don't think you'd be overstocking even with just the one filter. A shoal of cories wouldn't really add much to your bioload, and they would clean up leftover food for you. If you do get cories or loaches, just be sure that they get their own food, not just leftovers. Some people don't feed their cories enough.
