Hi,

I have just started my fish tank - 2 red cap fish. However, they won't come to the surface for food. The seem to be looking around the bottom of the tank but don't come to the top.

The water is 30cm deep and the tank is 60cm long. (approx 45L) I have used Cycle / Tri-start and the PH is 7 and 0 ammonia. The fish have been in the tank for 5 hours. I have an AquaClear Mini Filter. The water temp is 20.5C

Are the fish just not hungry or am I doing something wrong? Thanks again guys!! This is probably a stupid question but I just don't want to kill them!!

Thanks, Ty

Transferring the fish from one place to another is pretty stressful for them. When I put new fish in my tank, they usually don't eat for the first day or two, so I wouldn't worry.

are these "red cap fish" goldfish like red cap orandas?
they might be used to eating sinking pellets

yeh, they are. Although the lady at the pet shop told me to buy normal floating fish food - so I reckon that is what they would be used to. Will these fish come to the top to eat or will they just keep searching the bottom and die?

Goldfish are bottom feeders primarily and prefer sinking foods.
