The tetras scatter and swim erraticly, jumping out of the water and banging themselves into the glass. The guppies do the same, but to a lesser extent. It takes a full minute to get the tank to settle down. Is this normal? |

They'll dart around in the dark and hurt themselves by crashing into ornaments. I always make sure the light is on in the room, before I turn off the light above the aquarium, so my fish are not in the dark. The lights in the room provide a dim lighting for the fish.Later I turn off the lights in the room, and the change is not so sudden, so the fish are not startled. |

Now try a 6" fish slapping the top of your hood from time to time... Usually I try to turn on the tank light with some sort of light around the tank so the light itself is not that big of a shock. ![]() -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |
