hence why you should go to your LFS!!! You could have had them that day and with a warranty... and the higher price would have been negated by the insane shipping charges.

Nope... Not a rural area... My other two choices are co and mart... and they have even worse stock... YoYo What? Rummy Who?

Plus the people at aquariumfish.net need support, they care, and that should be rewarded.

Not insulted at all, thank you for your input ... Even though it's a bit late now that the fish are in a holding station somewhere .

- I wasn't inferring that you should do an incremental stocking from an online source.

Are you in a rural area that this pricey store is your only option? I live in a suburban area with many stores in my area, but have a high quality source that is almost 2 hours away. They put o2 in the bag and I put the bag in a cooler and it was no problem at all. This is the only place I'll get my stock from. I like the fact that they quarantine. Its the healthiest stock I've ever seen. Pruess Pets in Southeast Michigan

What I was thinking is that if you had to drive an hour away to get cheaper stock, it may be worth it, if it allows you to do an incremental stocking.

Sorry if you felt insulted - it wasn't intended.

Are you going to stock this tank with all those fish at once?

Why not stagger the stocking? Slow, incremental stocking, over time is one of the best ways for a community tank, imho.

Even a tank that has undergone fishless cycling can get thrown with such a sudden increase of ammonia. Good bacteria is slow growing and can't instantly respond.

Then you end up losing a bunch of fish to cycling toxins.

Hopefully, the fish they wanted to observe a little longer weren't in a tank with ich or some other nasty malady. The stress of transfer results in lowered immunity and you could lose the lot.

Because if I stocked slowly I'd have to pay 24.75 for every shipment of fish?

The tank was recently much more stocked then this will make it, the bacteria is there. I know what I'm doing... I've done this many, many times before.

If they had ich, they wouldn't have sent them. They said (and I quote) "They don't look quite as active as we normally like to see" which is understandable from a trip from the wholesaler.

Thanks Theresa_M

Wow, big difference in prices

Good luck with the fish, it sounds like a very nice tank. I'm particularly fond of loaches.

I've only ordered from Aquariumfish.net once, was quite happy with their fish and service. I like the fact that they have no minimum order requirement. I also liked that they actually read and try to fulfill special requests, unlike another big online fish retailer ("special request? we didn't see any special requests" ]:|)

Curiosity always gets the best of me

Yes I called:

Neon Tetra: $1.99

Harlequin Rasboras: $3.99

YoYo Loaches: $9.99 (2 and a half inches)

Your store is such a ripoff.

You can call Aquarium World Houston at (713) 329-9989 and ask for prices for those fish.

I don't believe you. Take pictures of these prices on the tanks, then i might start to kind of concede.

Online:
$2.00 Per Neon x 18 = $36.00
$1.75 Per Harlequin x 18 = $31.50
$3.25 Per YoYo Loach x 8 = $26.00
$24.75 Shipping
Total: $117.75

LFS:
$2.00 Per Neon x 18 = $36.00 (Thanks Koi)
$4.00 Per Harlequin x 18 = $72.00
$10.00 Per YoYo x 8 = $80.00
Tax $15.51
Total: $203.51

Savings: $85.76

I only order fish if they're rare and I can't get them at an LFS, or they're some of my precious breeding bettas . It is nice to find stores that actually care about their fish... or KNOW anything... yesterday I was in petco getting some plants for my tank, and I decided to grab a loach for my snail population... the lady said, "Oh, that...that's a....that's a..a.a... oh, that's a tiger cat... they get really, really big...." and I said "Nooo... the tiger cat's that really big thing in the plants... the zebra botias are these little guys..." Lady responds "..... ...... ......oh. Okay." :%)These people drive me nuts!! So I definitely understand what you're talking about, about lame service...

I can't say it's been easy... I can't say it's been fun... Theres been a lot of waiting and a little discouragement but the one thing that keeps my head from exploding is the extremely nice and courteous staff of Aquariumfish.net. The gentlemen I dealt with though this entire ordeal was always nice, friendly, knowledgeable and was truly looking out for the best interests of the fish and surprisingly me as well.

My original order was for:
18 Neon Tetra
18 Harlequin Rasboras
6 YoYo Loaches

I placed me order on Tuesday of last week (October 26th) and expected it the next day, this was not the case however as the YoYo Loaches were new arrivals and they keep them under observation for a few days before sending them. About 2 days after I placed my order I called to see how they were progressing and was informed that they would need a bit more timer under glass before shipment and they would probably be out Tuesday of the following week (November 2nd). I called again that day and they said that the fish didn't look quite as good as they normally like, but at my request they agreed to send them anyway (voided warranty of course) and that was that. Later I decided that maybe 2 more loaches would be a better idea, so I simple added them to my order and that was that. 2 days past (November 4th) and I wondered where my fish were so I called again and they informed me that half of their harlequin rasboars has up and died. They tried to contact me by phone but I wasn't home at the time. So they weren't going to be sending any out, they offered to hold my order until Sunday, but that didn't sound good to me (I HATE WAITING!) and they offered to replace my harlequins with another fish, so I changed them to rummy nose tetra, and they are going to be shipped out today (November 4th) to arrive tomorrow.

My final order is...
18 Neon Tetra
12 Rummy Nose Tetra
8 YoYo Loaches

And thus ends my little adventure... I'll update tomorrow if everything goes as planned. Thanks to everyone who helped me keep my anxiety in check during my wait.

So would I recommend them if you don't have a decent LFS of your own? You-bet-cha. They actually care about the fish... They could have sent me logy loaches or dying harlequins, but they didn't. They care about the fish, and in the end, that's all that really matters.

Then maybe the prices will go down to reasonable.

After a 2 hour acclimation my fish are in their now home... I'll be writing a few review of my experence ASAP.

I ended up with...
9 Rummies
19 Neons
7 YoYo Loaches

Meaning... 5 Rummies, 1 Neon and 1 YoYo Loach were DOA. Not that bad... I knew rummies weren't that hardy... *Shrug*

Everyone seems pretty stressed... But that's to be expected I suppose. Wish them luck.

Yay!! Congrats.

Good luck to your little fishies. Keep it dim for them the rest of the day to minimize shock. Poor things have been in total darkness.

It just came! YAY!

It's funny... the people on the phone told my grandma the fish were still in san diego as the bell rang... *shrug* UPS' head doesn't know what the tail is doing... It's kind of sad...

But more importantly there here! I've got them floating in the tank to bring their temp up. I'll start dripping them soon.

That's awful.

How long have they been in the box? Was it expected to be Next Day Air or Second Day Air?

Do they realize it is livestock?
