If you want to have the tanks and you want to enjoy the fish then it's something that has to get done. Can't say that I really enjoy it, but I don't dislike it either.

I like the outcome and how my fishies are all happy... but sometimes get annoyed with initially STARTING the cleaning. I'm a procrastinator at heart and sometimes getting motivated to clean is hard. Generally, I don't mind cleaning once I get started. I put on a ratty old top (because no matter WHAT I do around water, I'm GOING to get wet!) and get to it.

Sometimes I wish I had a python, because some of my tank are a pain. It may sound stupid to want a python for a ten gallon tank, but if you saw how slowly a normal vac worked on it because of it's proximity to the floor... Sigh.

The one thing I hate about cleaning is scaring my fish. My betta girls are fascinated by the process, but their cory tankmates run in terror, no matter how hard I try to be careful. Most of my fish are fine with cleaning, but the cories... I feel so sorry for them!

It's a pain, and it is something that has to be done. Now, when I only had less than 20 tanks, well it was kinda fun to do. It can be a learning experience as well. You can see which types of fish produce the most waste, and what kind of foods you are feeding that are causing some fish to produce more waste, as well as other things. But, now that I have more tanks, it is a hassle. As it takes me 12 hours a week, just for water changes, and 16+ hours per week if I do heavy cleanings.

As for all of you that love it, especially those living close to me, you are welcome to come over any time and help with the maintenace of my tanks, lol. After all, I would love to help you all get more enjoyment out of fish keeping. hehehehe.

just has to be done

i gotta admitt i thought this poll was goign to be insanely lopsided but i would have never guess it woudl be to the " i enjoy it" side. would be like askign a dog owner if he enjoys the company of the pooper scooper.

When I know it is time to do the cleaning I really am not in the mood, but once the python is hooked up, and the water temp is set, and the clothes are changed, it can be kind of fun...

How many gallons of water am I gonna slosh this time? Can I get the python from one tank to the other without drowning the whole apartment? Of course then there is the truly physical interaction of being in the tanks The guppies always have to nibble, the cichlids get petted, and well the corries have to investigate, BadBoy just looks at me like I'm out of my mind...

Towards the end I get kind of bored and wish it over, and those with several tanks over 100 gallons, I don't know how you keep your sanity:%)As it is my 125 that takes the longest, and drives me insane...

When it's all said and done, I get to sit back and enjoy the fishies as they swim and play...and the corries are just hilarious

And marc, I'd love to help you with the water changes, but you would die laughing at my clothing get up:%)for water changes...:%)

And Leslie, it's time for your water changes also...tonight maybe?

Being the vast minority in this thread, I still must say that water changes and tank maintenence in general is a pain the butt.

I voted I enjoy it, If I didn't like it I wouldn't have the tanks. I mean it's like having dogs and not walking them, that is a pain soetimes but it has to be done and is relaxing and invigorating. I really enjoy diggin around in the tanks, planting stuff here and there, and I like having a nice clean tank. It is a resposibility and it does need to be done, but who doesn't like makin their tanks better

I don't enjoy cleaning out the tanks per ce. It's cleaning out all the animals that's kinda fun. I get to spend time with them, clipping nails, brushing coats, and such. As for the fish, I entertain myself by adjusting plants and such. It's good looking at a clean tank in the end.

I voted that because I'd want a hose with more diameter to make the gravel vac faster. I use the usual 1/2" hose used mainly for the gardens... If i had a 3/4", it would be faster.

Its nice to see the fishes swimming in crystal clear water (im someone who loves wood ornamens = yellow water ] )

For me it is almost therapy after such long and stressful weeks. I usually take care of my tanks sunday morning and just hang around the house, which i love doing. I also like cleaning my tanks because the rewards are so great!

I voted for "It's just something that has to get done."
Although I do enjoy the results of regular water changes. Happy, healthy, and active fish. Can't complain about that.

I like doing maintenance. While I'm changing water I can prune, rearrange, and scrub the glass without getting too soaked, in the big tanks, and in the small tanks it's a snap so why worry? Plus, I know I'm doing something my fish adore me for, so that's endlessly worth it.

I don't mind it after i have done it but the thought of doing it never tempts me. Some days tho cleaning a tank is an enjoyable experience others it just seems painfully slow.

Voted For It's just something that has to get done

I basically just see it as more pet maintenance, which I have a lot of; cleaning cat litter box, feeding the dog and cats, cleaning up dog poop in the yard, cleaning out my scorpion cages, cleaning out the rabbit cage, putting the rabbits outside, etc, etc, etc...

I do it because I have to, but I certainly don't despise it.

I actually enjoy taking care of my tanks. I have 8 running right now and some weeks I do all of them in one day. Comfy clothes, put on some music...I find it relaxing and know it's good for my fish.
