So last night i was sitting on the couch painfully watching the Lost in Space movie (it's so bad...but entertaining).

I looked over at the tank, and noticed what I assumed was a large flake of food floating around. I noticed that it was floating in a very peculiar pattern (ie not at all following any sort of water current), and I also took note of the fact that I had fed them hours ago...thus there should, nay, would not be a piece of flake that size floating freely. If it hadn't been eaten, it would be on the gravel. But it was late and I was lazy, so I didn't bother investigating.

So today when I was home for lunch, I was sitting on the couch and noticed something small and orange. Now, I hadn't fed them yet so I knew it wasn't food. I wandered over to take a looksee, and lo and behold it was a little baby platy who had come out to do some investigation.

This prompted me to do a thorough inspection of the tank, which led to the discovery of what I think was last nights 'flake'. A thoroughly chewed up platy fry...who not 5 minutes after I discovered him was cleaned up by one of the adults.

So it has finally happened. Just when I was begining to think that my platys were born again virgins...they've gotten down with the sweet sweet lovin'.

Now to find out if there is anymore than just the one live one kicking around. Though I have a feeling that they would be full grown before I finally found them. My pleco is 2.5" long and I have a hard enough time finding him unless he is attached to the bottom of the driftwood.

Congrats on the fry!

There may have already been some in the past...platies are good at eating their own fry; the drops also get larger with time.

I have 3 fry that survived without intervention. If they're smart enough to stay away from those hungry mouths I figure they're keepers

Oh, it's not a matter of me wanting fry.

I don't care if there is or there isn't any. I was just surprised b/c I have heard many times over how much platys breed, and I haven't seen a single trace of any up untill now.

Haha...yeah, exactly.

As far as i'm concerned, unless I am specifically trying to breed 'em, it's survival of the fittest.

Besides, I have yet to finish stocking this tank...and as nice as they look I can't have it overrun with platy's.
