Ok so I need some advise,

Tomorrow they are going to fumigate my house, that means by tonight I have to have all my fish out. The small 5 gal tank I am just gonna move, but I have no where else not in the house to put my 20gal. So I have to take the fish out. I know that when moving from one house to another they wil be fine, but this is going to be 3 days. So I need some suggestions on how to keep them alive.

Also I assume the poison will make anything left in the 20 gal tank dead right? So will I need new gravel? to clean the whole tank and drain whatever water is left?

Thanks

I'd suggest getting the tank out of the house as well...any residue will likely make the tank a doorstop as far as fish go (ie: worthless).

Get a rubbermaid tote to transport the fish as if you were moving house. Drain the tank and move it from the house. Refil the tank and run it with an airstone, I'd suggest leaving the fish in the tote just to make it easier. Then once the house is clean move everything back. You're likely to @least have a minicycle if not to re-cycle the tank entirely.

Good luck .

^_^

That should work, the problem is gonna be finding a place for them, I have to stay in a hotel because other family are taking up the two on property guest rooms...sadly they are very small rooms, and the other other buildings that might have room for them are not climate controlled, avg temp in those rooms is high 90's mid day this time of year lol.... oh well I will come up with something

since it's only a 20g, you could put your fish (and water) into an insulated cooler and move the whole tank to the hotel for 2-ish days. then move them all back just as easily when you're done

Would it be possible to save the filter bacteria if you dumped the media into a bucket with an airstone for the duration?

Absolutely. Just use the tank water.

Personaly I'de just syphon to rubbermades and keep the fish in there, then move the tank where ever you're going with the fish. Hook the filter on the side of the container, add light, and you've got a stock tank for them.

It may be a little late now, but the Co. doing the fumagation should explain to you what method they are using. A couple of years ago the place I was living @ was done for termites and they used a gas that prevented O2 absorbtion as opposed to a pesticide. You would still need to remove your fish, but there were/are no residues to worry about. HTH, Steve
