Has anyone kept them? I am looking for the size they grow to. I've seen profiles with sizes anywhere from 3" (Planet Catfish) up to 6", which is a big difference considering they need a group of 5-6.

Depends which species you're referring to as "Glass Catfish", as quite a few species end up with that appelation.

The one I know of as being THE "Glass Catfish", Kryptoperus bicirrhis, allegedly attains a max SL of 4 inches according to most of the textbooks. And, has a definite psychological need for its own kind (mimimum shoal size 6-8 individuals).

However, there's an African Glass Catfish (Genus Schilbe) which can reach 1 foot in length. I assume you're not going to keep these

I should have added the scientific name Kryptopterus minor when I was typing. I think they are the same as what you are talking about just renamed (per planet catfish). Thanks for the help.

As well, these guys need fast flowing water, as you will see them congregate in the water that is fastest flowing, near plants or hiding spots. They are quite shy fish, and don't do well with very active fish.

The kryopteris bichirus are pretty shy, yes, and shoaling... they would do best in a long tank with lost of room to swim around and a fairly good current.

Oh, and you may need to feed fresh food at first, but over time they will get used to flake.

Thanks for the replies. They are going in a 55 with a transparent knife and some cories. Should be a pretty mellow tank. I have an emperor 400 and a whisper 40 on the tank, that should be enough water movement.
