So I went out to my LFS over the weekend to see about getting another tank to use as a hospital. They directed my attention to a 10 gallon used tank they were selling for $30 Canadian which is about $20 USD. It included everything - AquaClear filter, heater, air pump, hood with light, extra hood and it was in immaculate condition. Apparently the previous owner is fastidious about his tanks/equipment and had just purchased a 180 gallon so was swapping out his smaller tanks. After cleaning and testing for leaks, I set it all up and it runs beautifully.

So what do you guys think ? Good deal ?

Very good deal

A brand new ten gallon in the us is 10 bucks but then by the time you add the rest of your list on it is typically 40-60 dollars.

Enjoy your tank.

I agree with Vic and Koi it was a very good deal. I think I paid like 60 -70 usd for the last 10 gallon setup that I got.
Good luck with the tank,
Stella

maybe it is. I got my 10 gallon in an "economy package" they have that at practically every pet store, has lights, hood, some food, air pump/filter, net and maybe some other stuff and it cost $30

Sounds like a good deal. Just one word of warning though. Is the hood made out of wood? And if so, is it treated? I brought a hood/stand and tank, and not knowing that the hood wasn't treated, my air-stone water bubbles hit the hood and it leached poision back into my tank. It killed nearly all my fish day by day. Had 17 fish and only about 6 lived. Thats only after I transferred them into another tank, after realising what the problem was.

Thanks, guys. I thought it was a pretty good deal too.

agent-alice - ahhh but I live in Canada so $30 US is about $40+ here (dang dollar ). The cheapest ad I've seen for a 10 gal kit is $40 + taxes so I think I still came out ahead.

TigerAngel - thanks for the warning. It actually came with two lids, neither of which are wood. Good tip though to keep in mind for the future... oh not that I'm going to acquire any more tanks... not me...
