	Gravel change?
Ghwerig Small Fry Posts: 1 Kudos: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 23-Oct-2007	Hi guys, I have a question. I'm at school now, but for winter break I was thinking that I might try to spruce up my tank. I started it in middle school, so it still has that bright-colored, obnoxious gravel. Is there any way to safely change the gravel without totally throwing off the bacteria? I can leave it, if not, but it would look a lot better with more natural colors...

clownloachfan Fish Addict Posts: 660 Kudos: 850 Votes: 115 Registered: 10-Oct-2003	I did this a couple of years ago. It is a little risky, but mine didnt have any problems. Buy some bacteria like biozyme to add in after you do the change. It would be helpful to keep a handful of the old gravel in for a while, just to keep established gravel in there so it spreads to the new gravel. Then you can remove it in like a month.

Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001	Change the gravel in thirds, with about 2 or 3 weeks between portions. That'll give the new gravel enough time to get seeded with bacteria.
